In the charming centre, you will find numerous shops and boutiques, as well as lovely patisseries and many restaurants. The cuisine is varied, ranging from fast food to top restaurants, and the après-ski is excellent. Those looking for entertainment later in the evening can also enjoy themselves in a wine bar or one of the trendy nightclubs.
The village of Neuastenberg is also just a few minutes away from the Astenblick Apartments. Neuastenberg is a cosy and authentic winter sports village that has retained its traditional character. The characteristic half-timbered houses and cosy restaurants create a charming atmosphere. The village has several hotels, including the well-known Dorint, and shops for your daily shopping. The après-ski is also well catered for and there is always a lively atmosphere in the bars near the ski slopes and around the lifts.
You don’t necessarily have to go to the Alps for a great winter sports holiday. In the German Wintersport Arena Sauerland, a 3-hour drive from Utrecht, in and around Winterberg/Altastenberg, you will find everything you need for a long weekend, a midweek break or your main holiday in the snow.
Altastenberg is located at an altitude of 800 metres, making it the highest village in this snow-sure part of the Wintersport Arena Sauerland. Thanks to the use of modern snow cannons, Altastenberg guarantees a long and reliable ski season. In recent years, investments have been made in these snow-making facilities, and the versatile area now offers 17 optimally groomed slopes, accessible by 8 (chair) lifts. The ski area is bisected by a stream along which runs a long blue slope. The slopes vary from easy blue to difficult black runs. The best known of these is the FIS competition slope Westfalenwang. People also like to come to this area because of the wide slopes and because there are no long queues at the ski lifts. Those who enjoy a tasty lunch or a cosy après-ski will find everything they need in the ski area. The atmosphere in the various mountain huts is friendly and cosy. Cross-country skiers have numerous groomed trails at their disposal. Hikers will also enjoy winter walks through the beautiful winter landscape. The nearby villages of Neuastenberg and Winterberg are easily accessible via cross-country trails and winter hiking trails.
