Location – distances
Galatas and Daratsos are neighbouring villages on the low hills just west of Chania, close enough to share the same beaches and everyday amenities. Galatas carries a longer story: it was the scene of one of the defining moments of the Battle of Crete in 1941, and the village square, the Greek and New Zealand memorial, and a small museum still draw visitors tracing that history. Today it remains a living village rather than a monument, with tavernas around the square and a permanent local community that keeps both villages active well beyond the summer months
