Megalochori is the quiet wine village of Santorini, set inland among the vineyards rather than on the caldera rim. On a single plot here stand two traditional cave houses, carved into the volcanic rock in the island’s oldest building style, offering a rare thing on Santorini: character and a little space away from the crowds.

Megalochori’s walkable square, its neighbouring wineries, and a central position with Fira, the airport, and the port all within about 15 minutes make the property an easy base for visitors touring the island. The cave construction stays naturally cool through the summer, which guests notice, and both houses come furnished with air conditioning and internet, so they are ready to let as sold.

Location – distances
Megalochori’s square, lined with tavernas and cafes, is a short walk away, and the village sits among some of Santorini’s best-known wineries, including Gavalas in the village itself and Venetsanos and Boutari nearby, in the heart of Assyrtiko and Vinsanto country. The location is central for the whole island: Fira and the airport are each around 15 minutes by car, the ferry port at Athinios about 10 minutes, and the black-sand beaches of Perissa and Perivolos roughly 15 to 20 minutes away. Oia and its sunset are about half an hour to the north.
